About the center

ABOUT THE CENTER

The Nanotechnology Center at Helwan University was established as one of the central projects of the strategic plan of Helwan University (2015-2020), where the center developed to apply nanotechnology sciences in various scientific disciplines to provide services in different fields and propose solutions to many problems.

Research Themes

We are tackling some of the most challenging problems facing humanity through multidisciplinary research in nanoscale science and technology and this involves

Energy: Inventing new technologies for renewable energy

Health and medicine: Designing new medicines

Chemistry: Application of nanotechnology to synthesize catalysts that could be used in facilitating the chemical reactions

Painting: Application of nanotechnology to synthesize painting that have antimicrobial activity as well as provide better painting quality

Textiles: Application of nanotechnology for a better dying of the textiles – production of textiles that is water-proofing as well as textiles that are able to resist fires and microbial contamination.

Nutrition: Applying nanotechnology techniques for development of cans with no need for preservatives

Sustainable nanotechnology: Taking inspiration from nature to develop completely new materials engineered at the nanoscale.

CENTER UNITS

v  Preparation Unit: This unit consists of a set of laboratories for the manufacture and preparation of nanomaterials. These laboratories contain the necessary devices to prepare nanometric materials using chemical, physical and biological methods.

v  Characterization Unit: This unit consists of a set of laboratories for studying and determining the properties of nanometric material. These laboratories contain the equipment necessary to study and determine the properties of nanometric materials prepared at the center or in other research laboratories.

v  Biological Unit: This unit consists of a set of biological applications laboratories in which these laboratories are characterized by a safe work environment that provides safety requirements for researchers working at the center. This is in addition to the fact that these laboratories contain the scientific and research equipment necessary to study and develop nanometric materials in various scientific fields and their applications.

v  Training and Education Unit: This unit is entrusted with training and continuing education processes for members of the center, researchers and relevant individuals from inside and outside the university, with the aim of preparing human cadres trained in the field of nanotechnology and its applications.

v  The Quality Unit: This unit is responsible for quality assurance procedures within all units and laboratories of the center.

v  Marketing Unit: This unit is responsible for marketing the services provided by the center

CENTER OBJECTIVES

  • Preparing studies and conducting research in the applications of nanotechnology sciences in various fields to ensure the optimal investment of human and physical resources in order to achieve the distinction of Helwan University in the field of nanotechnology.
  • Organizing training courses to prepare researchers and technicians specialized in the field of nanotechnology and its applications.
  • Linking the studies and applied research carried out by the center with the priority directions of the state and the university in order to develop the national knowledge economy.
  • Exchange of experiences, information and cooperation with national and international centers interested in studies and research of nanotechnology and its applications in order to build strategic partnerships in the field of nanotechnology.
  • Supporting academic programs and interdisciplinary studies in the field of nanotechnology and its applications at the University level
